The following is from IMS…
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is prepared for the Red Bull Indianapolis GP on Sept. 12-14, the first motorcycle race at the facility since 1909, with a special parking and facility access plan for motorcycles and automobiles.
Approximately 26 acres of parking, comprising more than 15,600 parking spots, at the vast IMS facility will be dedicated to motorcycles.
While motorcycle and automobile parking is available on the west and south perimeter of the IMS grounds, the majority of parking lots – both inside and outside of the facility, free and paid-parking – are on the north side.
Fans that wish to park inside the IMS grounds should enter via Gate 10 on 30th Street. Gate 2, the main tunnel entrance off 16th Street and a traditional public access point for the Indianapolis 500 and Allstate 400 at the Brickyard, will be available only for credentialed and disabled parking.
“The Indianapolis 500 and Allstate 400 at the Brickyard are the two largest single-day sporting events in the world, and we have adapted our experience and skill in managing traffic flow within the facility at those races to fit the needs of the many motorcyclists who will ride to the Red Bull Indianapolis GP,” said Joie Chitwood, IMS president and chief operating officer.
As with every event at IMS, Red Bull Indianapolis GP fans should listen for traffic updates on local radio stations and pay attention to the direction of law enforcement officials, as traffic patterns can change.
More than 7,600 of the public parking spots designated for motorcycles on Red Bull Indianapolis GP weekend are free, with another 7,300 available for paid parking.
Parking “pucks” will be available at each motorcycle lot, along with helmet and leather check stations.
A large, free parking lot for motorcycles will be located behind the North and Northwest Vista grandstands (oval Turn 4). Additional free public parking will be available on the backstretch of the IMS oval in limited amounts.
Free parking for automobiles will be available in the traditional locations: the “North 40” lot just inside Gate 10 and inside Turn 3 of the oval in the IMS infield.
Access to the free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Additional paid parking lots for motorcycles and automobiles, along Georgetown Road and along 16th Street, also will be available.
Four paid motorcycle parking lots are located on the west side of Georgetown Road between 25th Street and 16th Street. Two more paid motorcycle lots are on the south side of 16th Street just east of Georgetown Road and across from the IMS oval.
