Scuderia Triumph SC’s Garry McCoy continues to recover in a Vienna hospital after suffering horrific injuries in a crash during Saturday practice for last weekend’s World Supersport Championship round in Brno, the Czech, Republic. McCoy was on a fast lap when he came up on the much slower Andrew Pitt on the track edge exiting a downhill corner. McCoy tried to avoid his fellow Australian, but his front brake lever touched the back of the Honda. McCoy was thrown to the track, the front end of his Triumph 675 Daytona distintegrated. McCoy, who now calls Andorra home, suffered six broken ribs, a fractured T-6 vertebra, and strong compression to his left lung. Speaking from Vienna’s Weinstabl Klinik, McCoy’s wife, Gemma Voces, told the team that McCoy was improving and that they would “probably stay in the Klinik for two weeks only, but we still have to wait to see how his lungs are going, because they still have a little bit of liquid, so it might be that they have to drain it. Voces went on to say that Dr. Weinstabl had been McCoy’s doctor for some years and that they were in good hands. “Garry started the new therapy called magnetic therapy. The therapy is not new but let’s say that they have updated it with newer and better machines that actually heal quicker the bones. He has to do ten hours in total in the therapy and he has done already two, so as well we have to wait to finish the eight hours that we still need to do. This week he is doing one hour a day and next week they will do two hours a day. So in general he is having a good recovery. “We still do not know how much time is going to take for him to get back, but if everything goes like now we can say that it is going to be faster than what we thought, but we’ll see. Garry wishes to thank everybody who have called to ask information, and he’s waiting to be able to do it directly from the saddle of his Triumph 675 Daytona.”
