Kawasaki KX500-mounted Destry Abbott (right) and Brian Brown (left) combined efforts to win the opening round of the Best in the Desert Silver State Series in Parker, Arizona, January 10. The team came from behind to take the lead and win on the last loop of the race, topping Team Honda’s Johnny Campbell and Steve Hengeveld. The Honda team led most of the race until Campbell had problems and surrendered the top spot to Abbott.
Chuck Dempsey and Andy Grider teamed up to win the Four-Stroke Pro class, finishing third overall on an XR650R. Fourth place went to KTM 525 EXC-mounted Elmer Symons, while defending class champ Chris Blais rebounded from an early crash on his XR650R to finish fifth overall.

Kariya spends way too much time in the desert, but we’re glad he does as he’s the man who gets us our coverage of all things sandy.
