L&M Yamaha’s Stefan Everts sits atop the World Championship point standings for the first time this year after winning the Grand Prix of Lierop in Holland.
Everts won his sixth Grand Prix in succession today, topping KTM’s Joel Smets by over 32 seconds. It was Smets’ third straight runnerup finish and his seventh second-place finish of the season. Third place today went to Honda-mounted Joshua Coppins in what was by far his best result of the season.
With previous championship points leader Mickael Pichon finishing sixth, almost two minutes behind Everts, both Everts and Smets leapfrogged over the defending World Champion in the standings.
Everts now leads Smets, 200-190, with three races remaining in the 12-round series. Pichon is third with 188 points.
