L&M Yamaha’s Stefan Everts did the double today in the Grand Prix of Austria, taking both the Motocross Grand Prix and the 125cc Grand Prix on his factory Yamahas.
In the 125cc GP, Everts topped KTM’s Steve Ramon by over two seconds at the circuit in Karntenring with Yamaha’s Andrea Bartolini finishing third. KTM riders Marc De Reuver and Erik Eggens rounded out the top five.
In the top-rung Motocross Grand Prix Everts came out on top of a battle with Suzuki’s Mickael Pichon, the Belgian beating the Frenchman to the line by just .350 of a second. Third place went to Honda’s Gordon Crockard with Honda-mounted Brian Jorgensen and KTM’s Joel Smets rounding out the top five.
Pichon had led the first five laps before Everts took over, leading the rest of the way with Pichon in hot pursuit.
With his victory, Everts pulls to within eight points of Pichon in the championship. Smets is just another point behind, nine points adrift of Pichon.
