Lampkin Again

Paul Carruthers | April 22, 2001

Dougie Lampkin (Montesa-HRC Cota 315R) prevailed in the second day of the Sant Llorenç Trial, the first scoring round of the World Championship, held today. The British rider repeated the previous day’s victory and has increased his advantage as leader of the general classification.

Takahisa Fujinami (Montesa-HRC RTL 250) finished third place, as did David Cobos (Montesa-HRC Cota 315R) in the final count of the two days, a combination that places Cobos at the head of the Spanish participants. The rider from Viladecans was the leader of the first round. José Manuel Alcaraz and Amós Bilbao, the other Montesa-HRC riders, finished 11th and 12th, respectively. Bilbao was crowned as the ‘King of Sant Llorenç,’ in being the participating rider with the best winning list of the event.

Dougie Lampkin proved to be ”happy, in general, with the balance of the day.” “The first round could have been better,” Lampkin said. “But I improved in the second, being the best of the two days; as the one single points shows.”
