If you weren’t riding a KTM in today’s Stage 11 of the Paris-Dakar Rally, you weren’t at the top of the standings. In what was described as a “fairly easy stage” in order to reaclimate the riders after their day off yesterday, KTMs filled the top eight positions.
The fastest of those KTMs was the one ridden by Per-Gunnar Lundmark, the winner of today’s stage – a 314-mile jaunt that featured a 280-mile special test. Lundmark topped Carlo de Gavardo, Alfie Cox, Isidre Esteve Pujol and Kari Tianen in winning the stage.
BMW’s Jimmy Lewis, meanwhile, finished ninth on the day and was the top non-KTM rider. Lewis ended up 12 minutes and 15 seconds off the pace set by Lundmark and the Californian is currently sixth overall – two hours, four minutes and 19 seconds behind overall leader Fabrizio Meoni, the KTM rider who ended up seventh in today’s stage.
Honda’s Johnny Campbell finished 13th in today’s stage and lies eighth overall after 11 stages.
