After having won 9 of the first 10 rounds in the World Championship Trials Series (and finishing second in the one he lost), Dougie Lampkin finally showed a chink in his armor at the German trial in Allemagne this weekend.
Things got off to their typical start on Saturday, with Lampkin scoring the win over HRC/Montesa teammates Takahisa Fujinami and Marc Colomer. But on Sunday, Beta-mounted Kenichi Kuroyama scored the overall victory, with Gas Gas rider Steve Colley finishing second and Colomer taking third. Where was Lampkin? Thwarted by easy conditions and rain, he finished a lowly (for him) fifth. Of course Lampkin’s vulnerability only goes so far – he still leads the points standings by 37!
