Bruce Anstey Diagnosed With Cancer—Isle of Man TT legend Bruce Anstey has been diagnosed with cancer for the second time in his life. Anstey has “multiple tumors in his lungs and a tumor in his spine, as well as a blood clot on his lung,” according to wife Annie, reports UK newspaper, the Telegraph and Asphalt and Rubber
Bruce Anstey Diagnosed With Cancer
New Zealander Anstey previously overcame testicular cancer in the 1990s to go on to one of the most successful Isle of Man TT careers in history, with 13 TT victories to his name as well as success at the North West 200 and Ulster Grand Prix.
Tributes have poured in from across the globe, with 23-time TT winner John McGuinness saying via Twitter, “One of the most naturally gifted riders on the planet, you wouldn’t meet a nicer guy! Get well soon mate.”
Anstey was slated to ride in the upcoming TT on the Padgetts Honda RC213V-S he campaigned in the previous two Superbike and Senior TTs, as well as his usual place in the Mugen Team on the Shinden Nana electric superbike.
Anstey’s withdrawal from the TT puts another big name on the sidelines, as Team Honda Racing’s Ian Hutchinson is still not confirmed to race after further injuring his left leg in a crash in last year’s Senior TT. John McGuinness, although signed for Norton for the Superbike and Senior TTs, as well as the MD Racing team on a CBR600RR, is still not confirmed as he continues to recover from leg injuries sustained at the 2017 North West 200.
Everyone at Cycle News wishes Bruce the very best in his treatment and recovery and we hope to see the Kiwi once again flying around the Isle of Man TT course.
